Darkroom Door DT - Honeycomb Small Stencil

Hello Darkroom Door fans!!

Today I am sharing my projects created for Darkroom Door featuring the BRAND NEW Honeycomb Small Stencil. This is such a cool stencil suitable for so many projects and co-ordinates perfectly with the Buzzing Bees Rubber Stamp Set.

In this post you will see that I created two large tags and a card using this versatile stencil.

'Happy Bee-day' Card

For this card I wanted to use the whole stencil for the background. I simply cropped a sheet of smooth white heavyweight cardstock to fit the stencil nicely. Then I held the stencil in place while I applied Wild Honey Distress Oxide with an ink blending tool. I removed the stencil and then flicked some water over the top. I pressed the Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxides onto my craft sheet, picked up the ink with a soft wet paintbrush and flicked those colours over the background too. I added some more texture to the background by adding stamping with the Splatter Texture Stamp and the Wild Honey Distress Oxide.

Once dry, I mounted the background onto a honey coloured cardstock card base and added my fussy cut stamped images and sentiment.

Such a quick and easy card but a striking effect with the gorgeous honeycomb background.

Next up I created two large tags using the stencil in two different ways.

For these tags, I started by applying the Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxides to my craft sheet and spritzing with water. I then swiped the tags through the inks. I dried the tags with a heat gun and then pressed onto the leftover inks. I repeated until I was happy with the coverage and there was no more ink on my craft sheet.

I applied the Wild Honey Distress Oxide onto the craft sheet again and spritzed with water. This time I swiped the stencil through the ink making sure that the whole stencil was covered and there was plenty of ink on it. Then I used the stencil as a stamp to apply the pattern to the tags. I repeated the process until I was happy with the pattern on the tags.

Once the tags were dry again, I added some stamping using the honeycomb stamp from the Buzzing Bees Rubber Stamp Set and the Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide.

I added more stamping using stamps from the Number Medley Rubber Stamp Set. I also used the honeycomb stencil again in a more traditional manner to apply the Wild Honey oxide with an ink blending tool.

To finish, I added a bunch of fussy cut stamped images as well as a rainbow that I stencilled with the same oxides onto smooth white cardstock and fussy cut.

Bee Arty DT - This Is Me

Hello Bee Arty fans!

It's Belinda here with you today to share my layout created for Bee Arty inspired by the August Sketch Challenge.

Here's a reminder of the awesome sketch:

I chose to work with the stunning Grateful Heart Collection for my layout.

I cropped a sheet of the Grateful Heart Love patterned paper and mounted on a sheet of the fabulous 350gsm white cardstock. I spritzed the page with water and added Road Base Colour Spray. I spritzed with a bit more water and played around with the ink on the page. I used a paintbrush to help spread the colour on the page and also flicked some of the colour over the surface. Then I set it aside to dry.

Once my page was completely dry, I added some stamping using Jet Black Ranger Archival Ink with the Bokeh Stamp. I also added stencilling using Stormy Weather Colour Paste with the Circulate Stencil.

Once the Colour Paste was dry, I added my layered, cropped patterned papers according to the sketch.

I die cut some leafy stems using the Autumn Trio Metal Die from the Embrace Change Collection. I did a whole lot of fussy cutting using the gorgeous elements from the Grateful Heart Gathers and Collection Bonus sheets.

Darkroom Door DT - Wild Things

Hello Darkroom Door fans!!

Welcome to my post where I am going to share with you my projects created for DARKROOM DOOR featuring the stunning BRAND NEW Tropical Leaves Large Stencil.

Here's a peek at the fabulous stencil:

I am in love with this stencil and I can't stop using it right now. You receive the negative image/frame as well as the positive image/mask in the pack and all work really well for so many different projects.

For my post today, I am sharing 2 art journal pages plus a bonus page as well as a mini junk journal.

'Wild Things' Art Journal Page

For this page, I started by creating a crazy vibrant background using pink, red and purple acrylic paints with a bit of neon thrown in. I applied the paint with messy brush strokes and added some mark making including stamping with a lid dipped in paint. It is very freeing to just slap down colour with no plan in mind whatsoever. I then used the 'masks' or 'positive image' leaves from the Tropical Leaves Large Stencil and attached to my page using a tiny bit of double sided paint to secure in place. I painted around the leaves using various blue paints. While the blue paint was still fairly wet, I placed the Polka Dots Small Stencil over the top and wiped away some of the blue paint with a water wet wipe to reveal the red paint below. I also used the same stencil with some white gesso to add more patterns in the blue areas to give the look of dappled sunlight. I used a black journalling to add a scribbly outline around the leaves using the stencils to add the first outline and then adding the extra scribbly lines afterwards. I added some stamping using the Tropical Leaves Rubber Stamp Set and Splatter Texture Stamp using Jet Black Ranger Archival Ink. Finally, I added a quote using chopped up words stamped from the You Are Everything Rubber Stamp Set.

'Never Hide Your Wild' Art Journal Page

For this page, I wanted to experiment with the Tropical Leaves on my gel press. I created a print with two of the leaves and applied onto a page in my kraft journal. I used the stencil again along with the Crackle Large Stencil and the Dots Small Stencil to add patterns to the leaves using acrylic paints. I created another leaf on extra kraft paper with some green acrylic paint and stamped it with the Abstract Triangles Background Stamp. I added scribbly outlines to all of the leaves using a black journalling pen, fussy cut the extra leaf and added it to the page. I added some more stencilling using the Starry Night Large Stencil with gesso. I finished with a quote cut from words stamped from the You Are Everything and Sketched Alphabet Rubber Stamp Sets.

Here's another example created in a similar way to my first art journal page.

'Wild' Junk Journal

For this 'wild' junk journal cut up some cheap watercolour paper and tore some of the edges for a more organic look. I sprayed all of the pages with Dylusions Ink Sprays in Cut Grass, Lemon Zest and Polished Jade and set aside to dry. It took a while but I ended up with both sides of all pages coloured with the Ink Sprays. I chopped up some Dina Wakley Stickyback Canvas Tape and stuck it down onto some plastic packaging and added the same Dylusions Ink Sprays.

Once everything was completely dry, I stencilled on the Tropical Leaves using various acrylic paints in blues and greens.

I used the Tropical Leaves Large Stencil with a black journalling pen to add some leafy outlines to the pages.

I stamped on some more tropical leaves using the Tropical Leaves Rubber Stamp Set and Archival Inks. It was at this point that I stuck all of the pages together using the altered stickyback canvas tape.

I added more stencilling using the Dots Small Stencil with acrylic paint as well as stamping with the Splatter Texture Stamp.

I created some extra leaves using the Tropical Leaves Large Stencil and the Dylusions Ink Sprays on the watercolour paper. I added outlines using a black journalling pen, fussy cut and stapled onto various pages throughout the journal.

I found a bunch of 'wild' quotes online and printed them out to add to my journal. I chose a word from each of the quotes to stamp with the Alphabet Medley Rubber Stamp Set just to mix up the fonts in my quotes and to emphasize the main word.

Finally, I added some mark making using Posca Pens, Scribble Sticks and Jane Davenport Power Pastels. I finished with my favourite quote from a book that I absolutely love; 'Wild' by Cheryl Strayed. The movie is really good too.

Scrapping Clearly DT - Christmas in July

Hello Scrapping Clearly fans!!

It's Belinda here today to share my Christmas in July Cybercrop projects. For my projects I chose to bind together some Heidi Swapp Memory Files and create a junk journal. I used the Believe Christmas collection by Heidi from when I attended a workshop here in Adelaide as well as some papers from the Dreamy 6"x6" Paper Pad.

Sadly, as we were in lockdown in Adelaide at the time of the cybercrop, I didn't get as many projects completed as I had hoped. I had to compete for computer time and with everyone home it seemed like I was forever making meals!! Anyway, I will continue to work on it and hopefully have it finished by Christmas in December!!

Challenge One

For this page I used a smaller memory file from the Heidi Swapp Christmas range. There are newer Christmas collections that are equally as gorgeous now. Check out the Oh What Fun and Winter Wonderland collections in the shop. I used Chartreuse Colour Shine on the background as well as a stencil and stamps by Darkroom Door.

I layered some of the patterned papers together and added embellishments from the range as well as a Kaisercraft gold paper doily, a Charms Creations embellishment as well as buttons. I finished with a title created from Dusty Attic chipboard.

Challenge Two

For Challenge Two, I wanted to document how we usually end up at the beach on Christmas Day. Well we used to before Covid. Now we stay home.

I created this page pretty much the same way as the first one. The same Colour Shine and patterned paper range. I tore the papers to represent the waves breaking on the beach. I also added a fabulous 6"x6" Heidi Swapp die cut paper. I tore the die cut paper into strips so I could use it on multiple pages.

Again I used Charm's Creations embellishments, Darkroom Door stamps and a stencil and Dusty Attic chipboard as well as a Colour Magic star die cut from the Believe collection.

Challenge Three

For Challenge Three I used the softer, pastel colours from the colour wheel. The background paper is from the Heidi Swapp Art Walk Paper Pad. I added some Patina Colour Shine on the background and used some gesso with a Darkroom Door stencil.

Next I chopped up some papers from the Dreamy 6"x6" Paper Pad and layered them together. I added some of the torn starry 6"x6" Die Cut Paper too.

I finished it off with a few strategically placed embellishments.

Well that is all I managed to complete. I am looking forward to working through the remaining challenges and will share those next Friday.

The Dusty Attic DT - 'Under The Sea' ATCs

Hello Dusty Attic fans!

It's Belinda here today to share my project for The Dusty Attic inspired by the gorgeous July Mood Board. For my project today I decided to create something a little different to my usual layout and make some ocean themed artist trading cards instead.

Here's a peek at the mood board:

I love these colours so much and they are perfectly suited to an ocean/beach theme.

To start my atcs, I played around with acrylic paints in the colours of the mood board. I used a palette knife to spread the paints over the surfaces.

Next I used the Webbing Stencil to add some pattern and a couple of Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays that I drew on using the nozzle removed from the bottle.

I used a selection of fabulous mini ocean themed chipboards to decorate my atcs. I painted them all with a few coats of heavy white gesso to seal them and create a light base to make my acrylic paint colours more vibrant. The gesso seals the chipboard and stops the colours soaking in. Then I painted them using the same acrylic paints as the background.
