Darkroom Door DT - Starry Night Background Stamp

Hi Darkroom Door fans!!

Today I am sharing a sweet card set I created featuring the stunning Starry Night Background Stamp. This stamp is such a fabulous addition to the amazing collection of background stamps at Darkroom Door. I will be using this stamp for many, many projects!!

Here I have used the background stamp with Distress Oxide inks to create cards with different themes.

 This stamp is so versatile!!

'Believe' Card

Instructions:

Step 1:

- Cut a piece of white cardstock measuring 14.5cm x 21cm. Fold in half to form the card base.

Step 2:

- Cut another piece of smooth white cardstock measuring 10cm x 14cm.

- Add a small piece of double sided tape to the star from the Small Stencil Star Set.

- Place the star on the cardstock securing in place with the tape.

- Apply the Starry Night Background Stamp over the top using Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink.

- Set aside for a while to allow the ink to dry.

- Next apply the Peacock Feathers ink lightly over the whole piece using an ink blending tool.

- Remove the star stencil.

Step 3:

- Stamp all remaining elements onto extra smooth white cardstock using the same ink.

- Fussy cut each element and add to the card front using 3D foam along with some messy thread.

- Stick this whole piece onto the card base.

Here is another Christmas card using the very same technique with different elements and ink.

Next up is a card that could either be a Christmas card or a birthday card.

The Starry Night Background Stamp can also easily be used for a sweet baby card as I have used it here.

Darkroom Door DT - Star Set Small Stencil

Hello Darkroom Door fans!!

Today I am sharing a project created with the BRAND NEW Star Set Small Stencil from darkroom Door.

'Follow Your Heart' Art Journal Spread

The  small stencil is perfect for cards, layouts, traveller's notebooks and many more projects but I really wanted to use it for a star themed art journal spread.

I first laid down a collage background in my altered book. I added torn strips of paper, paper masking tape, washi tape, sewing patterns etc and glued down with matte gel medium. 

Next I used a water soluble black pencil to sketch out my character and blended with a soft wet paint brush.

I secured the Star Set stencil (just the star) onto the pages and spritzed on some stunning colour using new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Sprays. The colour of these are so vibrant but because I used matte gel medium the sprays are not able to soak into the paper. Instead they sit on the surface, take absolutely forever to dry and then fade...heaps. Next time I would use them without the matte gel medium. Lesson learnt!

I also used some lovely Jane Davenport acrylic paint to work on the character.

I added some more of the Distress Oxide Sprays letting them drip down the pages. I added some more stencilled stars at this point too and outlined them with the water soluble pencil. I blended out the pencil using the paint brush.

Once dry. I added the other part of the stencil around the stars and then applied a background stamp so that just the star would be stamped. Once the Jet Black Archival Ink was dry, I painted the stars with some white gesso to tone down the stamping.

I added more detail to the face of my character as well as some more stamping with various sized star stamps and quotes.

I flicked over some white paint and gold paint to finish.

The Dusty Attic - October Mood Board

Hey Dusty Attic peeps!!

Today I am sharing my take on the awesome October Mood Board at The Dusty Attic. The colours are so stunning and just happen to match a photo of my German shepherd, Ziva.

'Paw Prints on my Heart'

I started with a beautiful Stamperia patterned paper background. The paper was so lovely that it really didn't need anything added to it but I couldn't resist just a few swipes of the Dusty in Colour Sunburnt Orange paint that I had slightly diluted with water. The colours really just worked magically with my photo of my dog who just happened to be staring intently at a koala that had come to visit on the other side of the fence. Koalas really love the gum tree that is inside my dog compound even though I have two big dogs under that tree! I could hear a horrible noise on this day so I ran out with my camera (of course!) and found a koala screaming at my dogs. I had never heard a koala make such a noise before. It really wanted to get to that tree even though there are hundreds of trees it could choose on our property. Silly koala.

I used lots of layers of patterned papers, a tag or two and a strip of hessian as well as a film strip that I cut in half to lengthen under my photo. I also slipped in some messy thread in the one colour that was missing from my photo. I added some older Dusty Attic flowers that I have had in my stash for aaaages.

I painted my title and the paw prints using Gingernut paint and added a little bit of the Sunburnt Orange on the title.

I painted the cute heart that comes with the title in Forest Green.

The Dusty Attic - October Project

Hey peeps!!

Today I am sharing a layout created for The Dusty Attic featuring some of the brand new chippie designs that I am loving at the moment.

Cattitude

For this layout I chose to scrap a favourite photo of my Burmese cat, Noodle. The photo really suited a circular style so I die cut it to fit inside the fabulous String Frame. I started with a beautiful background paper by Stamperia and added a swirl of diluted black gesso. I also splashed the gesso across the page. Next I added some stamping using Jet Black Archival Ink.

I wanted to keep the colour palette simple so stuck to a combination of black and gold. I painted the Diamonds, title, string frame and Mini Brackets using a gold acrylic paint. I also diluted some of the gold paint and flicked across my background.

I glued the diamonds onto some of the Stamperia paper so that the little faces would peek through and then cut around the edges. I painted the Paw Prints with the black gesso and glued just the large one onto some patterned paper before cutting that out too.

I also painted the flourishes with the black gesso as well as the cute cat. Once the paint was dry I added eyes to the cat using first a gold pen and then a black pen for the pupils.

I painted the title with the same gold paint. Finally I assembled everything on the page adding in some messy black thread and a scattering of gold sequins.
