The Dusty Attic DT - Cattitude

Hello Dusty FANattics!!

Today I have a layout for The Dusty Attic to share with you inspired by the stunning September mood board.

'Cattitude'

Of course I had to use some of the fabulous new cat inspired chipboard pieces with this super cute photo of my daughter wearing her favourite cat ears.

Hare's a reminder of the beautiful colours in the mood board:

I stamped up my background using a cheetah print background stamp and paw print stamp both by Darkroom Door. Then I layered a whole bunch of patterned papers together to add interest and dimension under my photo. That cute cat banner was fussy cut from some old scrapbook paper I had in my stash.

I added my photo using 3D foam and slipped in some love hearts on either side.

I painted all of the chipboard pieces with about 3 coats of heavy white gesso for a lovely crisp white finish. To emphasize the word 'cat' I coloured it using a metallic pink paint pen

I added those cute little paw prints as though they were walking up the page like the stamped ones.

The Dusty Attic DT - A Girl And Her Dog

Hello Dusty Attic fans!

Today I have my September project to share with yoou featuring some of the fabulous new pet inspired chipboard.

'A Girl and Her Dog'

This is probably my favourite photo of myself as a child with my very first dog 'Snoopy'. I love that it shows how I have loved dogs from a very young age. I wanted to give this layout a bit of a retro/vintage feel because let's face it that photo is kind of vintage now!! LOL

To create a vintage vibe I first mixed up some Dusty in Colour Dusty Pink with a touch of Gingernut and a lot of white gesso. I diluted a portion of it with water and used it to create a watercolour wash over my background paper.

Once the paint was dry I added that funky Geo Panel securing it in place with a few hidden staples. I love to use chipboard in its raw state and I like how the subtle colour didn't detract from the main focus which is always the photo.

Next I used some of the non-diluted paint to colour the 'girl' and 'dog' in the title. I left the rest of the title unaltered to match the Geo Panel and to keep the focus on the 'girl' and 'dog'. 

I layered on all of my patterned papers, photo, title and other embellishments. I coloured the paw prints and heart button with a white paint pen.

The Dusty Attic DT - Milk Monster

Hi Dusty FANattics!!

Today I am sharing my take on the gorgeous August Mood Board at The Dusty Attic.

'Milk Monster'

I chose to use the dark brown in the mood board for my background allowing the other brighter colours to pop.

So pretty right?!

I chose the NEW Distressed Grid Broken Bits for this layout specifically so I could paint the splats with white gesso to look like milk to match the photo of my little man messing about with his milk.

I added lots of layers of matching patterned paper under my photo and tucked in a bunch of tickets, page tabs, flowers and stickers etc.

I used the NEW Alphabet Jumble for the 'Milk' title. I LOVE the random heights and styles of the letters for my titles. I painted the 'milk' with a mix of Capri and Oceania Dusty in Colour paints with some white gesso mixed in.

The Dusty Attic DT - Bad Ziva

Hello Dusty Attic fans!!

Today I have a layout to share for The Dusty Attic featuring some of the fabulous NEW chipboard designs.

I am absolutely loving the NEW pet friendly designs as I have a LOT of animals on my farm including my fur babies.

So today's layout features my favourite dog out of my three fur babies even though she drives me insane with her barking!! She is very sweet and smart, lovely to walk and loves being in the car.

'Bad Ziva'

"She believed she could woof so she did. (and she hasn't stopped." Yes!! But how cute is she as a puppy?! German shepherds are adorable when they haven't grown into their big ears yet. 

I have used lots of the NEW chipboard on this layout. I mixed up some Capri and Oceania Dusty In Coloour paints along with a little white gesso to make the pretty soft aqua colour for the stencilling as well as the 'woof' and the Diamonds Broken Bits. How good are the Broken Bits?!!! I LOVE this new chipboard design and I can see that I will be using lots of these. 

I used heavy white gesso on the other words on my layout. I gave them about three coats for an extra bright and crisp white. I intentionally left the 'bad' raw so it wouldn't stand out as much because she really isn't a bad dog...just a little annoying. LOL She is my second German Shepherd and I will always have these awesome dogs in my life. 

In breaking news: I have used flowers on this layout!!! They are not a standard feature on my layouts but how can you go past these super pretty flowers. I have added two clusters of flowers in the soft Evening Blush colour as well as Cornsilk.

Oh and the cute little pawprints were also painted with three coats of heavy white gesso.

The Dusty Attic DT - July Mood Board

Belinda here today to share my layout based on the July Mood Board.

'A Perfect Moment'

The colours in the mood board this month are just stunning!!

Here's a peek at the inspiration:

I added a pretty blue watercolour effect to my background paper using some watercolour paint. Next I painted the leftover negative frame from the Star Banner with some heavy white gesso. I added some layers of patterned paper behind the banner and stuck down on my page.

I added layers of patterned paper and my photo on the right hand side of the page. Then I created a title using the Perfect Moment title along with letters from the Teeny Tiny ABC Set and a word from the Mini Words # 1. I coloured the 'Perfect Moment' with Cranberry Dusty In Coloour paint, the 'remember' with heavy white gesso and the remaining letters with a blue Posca paint pen.

The arrow was painted with the same Cranberry paint and the mini stars were covered with the gesso.

Darkroom Door - Abstract 01

Hello Darkroom Door fans!

Today I have three projects to share featuring the BRAND NEW Abstract 01 Stamp. I have created two dark and grungy art journal spreads as well as a brighter card.

'Plant Happiness' Card

Instructions:

Step 1:

- Cut a piece of white card stock measuring 17cm x 20cm.

- Fold in half to form the card base.

Step 2:

- Cut another piece of smooth white card stock measuring 9.5cm x 17cm.

- Apply the Fallen Leaves Background Stamp to this piece using Peeled Paint Distress Archival Ink.

- Stick down on the card base.

Step 3:

- Cut another piece of smooth white card stock measuring 8.5cm x 16cm.

- Press the Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink pad onto a large acrylic block and spritz with water.

- Place the upturned acrylic block onto the card stock and then remove.

- Titl the piece of card stock to play with the ink and cover the piece as much as you wish. You may need to spritz with more water to get the ink to flow.

- Dry with a heat gun.

Step 4:

- Apply the Abstract 01 Stamp to the bottom of the inked piece using the Peeled Paint ink.

- Choose some small flowers from the Carved Flowers and Gardening Vol 2 Rubber Stamp Sets.

- Use the Peeled Paint ink on the stems and some bright Distress Oxides on the flowers. Line up the stems with the lines from the Abstract 01 Stamp and stamp on the card front. Repeat until you have a pretty garden of flowers.

Step 5:

- Use a green pen/marker to add leaves to some of the stems.

- Add outlines using a fine white paint pen to make them stand out from the background.

- Tie some ribbon around the base of this piece and then mount on some extra white card stock.

- Trim so that you have a fine white border around the stamped piece.

- Stick down on the card base.

- Stamp the sentiment on the extra card stock using Jet Black ink, fussy cut and add to the card.

Next up are two art journal spreads I created inspired by a tutorial by Jenny Grant. For both, I created a collaged background in an altered book using scraps of patterned paper, tissue paper, torn sewing patterns and other scraps. I sketched my characters and used black and white gesso as well as a cream acrylic paint on the pages. Then I used a bunch of Darkroom Door Stamps with Jet Black Archival Ink. I also added interest to the first spread with Darkroom Door stencils and gesso.

The Dusty Attic DT - Remember Today

Hi Dusty Attic fans!

Today I am sharing my layout for July featuring some fabulous Dusty Attic chipboard.

'Remember Today'

This layout is based on the awesome Week 26 sketch by Jennifer Hedger. I started by adding some pretty Dusty Pink paint to the background using a palette knife. Then I layered on some matching patterned papers after using a latex sponge to add some of the Dusty Pink paint to the edges..

I painted the beautiful Iron Garnish with heavy white gesso and once dry, slid it just under the edge of the patterned paper. I had run out of my favourite Mini Tabs but I still had the leftover negative frame so I painted that with the Dusty Pink paint and added some white card stock behind it. I stuck it down on the right hand side of the page where the tab was supposed to be.

Next I added my photo montage as well as a huge cluster of flowers to the left. I painted a Mini Her with the pink paint and added that to the cluster.

I finished by adding the title that I painted with the white gesso as well as an arrow painted pink.
