The Dusty Attic DT - January Mood Board

Hello!!

Today I am sharing my take on the stunning January Mood Board at The Dusty Attic.

Here's a peek at the mood board in case you missed it.

Aren't those colours just gorgeous?!! Aqua is my most favourite colour so I was super happy to play along with this inspiration.

*NOTE: I actually did use every colour from the inspiration however that stunning chipboard frame covered up my darker blues.

To start this layout, I applied some clear gesso to my background patterned paper and let it dry. Then I mixed up a lovely watery wash with Dusty In Colour Alabaster and Capri paints. I spritzed my paper and then dropped the paint on with a soft wet paintbrush. I let the colour pool and drift over the page and then set aside to dry. Once dry I flicked some of the leftover paint over the page to add some more interest.

I added some more detail to my background using some tiny little heart stamps from Darkroom Door and a matching ink.

I painted all of my chipboard with a couple of coats of heavy white gesso and then a white paint pen to make a lovely crisp bright white. I painted the 'sweet' and the Mini Heart Button with undiluted Capri paint.

One of my favourite things to do is create lots of layers on my layouts. I started with the large frame from the Fancy frame # 12 set. I then added many layers of co-ordinated patterned papers. I like to shuffle around my layers and then staple them together before adding to my layout rater than sticking one layer on at a time. I prefer to use staples so that I can add little bits in around the sides of my layers later.

After the paper layers I added the smaller frame from the set, my photo and all of the sweet embellishments and words. I love to mix up and combine a variety of fonts when I add my title.

The Dusty Attic DT - January Sketches

Hello Dusty Attic fans!

Today I have two layouts for The Dusty Attic to share with you based on the first two awesome sketches for the year.

The boss has created some fabulous sketches that really help to get the creativity flowing. I love that I can skip the design step and get stuck right into a layout. I also love using multiple photos on a layout for a change.

Week 1 Sketch

'Love This Memory'

What an absolute cracker of a sketch for the first one of the year! The design made it super easy to add so many photos. Especially for a single photo scrapper like me. Lucky I take so many photos of my kids when they are at karate grading too!

I started with a kraft cardstock base with each piece cropped to the roughly A4 size that I like to scrap. I taped them together at the back using some washi tape just to hold them in position while I worked on them. I used Cocoa Vanilla Studios papers (another awesome Aussie brand) and just played around with them until I was happy with the arrangement of patterns and colours.

I stuck the papers down and then swiped some Dusty In Colour Storm Cloud Paint across the two pages to give my photos somewhere to 'sit'.

I used the Crosshatch Stencil with some white gesso to add a little more interest to my background.

Check out that fabulous Arrow Border! I LOVE these! Here I have simply painted it with a couple of coats of heavy white gesso. Once the gesso was dry I then went over the top with my white Posca Paint Pen to make it a more brighter, crisper white. All of the chipboard pieces I used on this layout were given the same treatment. I love the look of crisp white against kraft cardstock.

Week 2 Sketch

Scrapbooking to me is not just about recording the best moments. It's about recording ALL of the moments; good and bad. For this layout I wanted to document the day I got one of THOSE calls from my son's school.

*NOTE: This layout contains a 'sentence enhancer'. Look away if you are offended by swear words.*

I have used some of my favourite Aussie brands on this layout; Dusty Attic of course as well as Cocoa Vanilla Studio and Flutterby Designs.

I used the Metal Plates Stencil with a black journalling pen to add some interest to my background. I also used the stencil to create a border around my page.

I covered the Boom - Layered Clusters with co-ordinating patterned paper and sanded the edges.

The rest of the chipboard was treated the same as in the previous layout to create a crisp white look.

The Dusty Attic DT - Dear Santa

Hello Dusty Attic fans!

Today I have a layout to share for The Dusty Attic inspired by the stunning December mood board. 

'Dear Santa'

I super love the colours this month. Blue (or aqua to be more precise) is my favourite colour so this was an easy one for me to work with. I started with a bllue patterned paper base and added some stencilling with the Confetti #2 Stencil and some heavy white gesso. I also used a white paint pen to flick some more spots across the layout.

Next I tore the ends from the Filmstrip border and painted it white using the heavy white gesso. Once dry, I stapled it onto the layout where the staples would be hidden.

I layered on some co-ordinating patterned papers and a sweet doily. I coloured the Polaroid Frame with the heavy white gesso also and glued it onto my photo. I trimmed the photo around the edges and added it on top of the paper layers.

How cute is that 'Naughty or Nice' Postmark?!! My darling daughter in the photo could have gone either way!! She has THAT look on her face. Thank goodness she is well and truly past the tanty stage!! LOL I used a gold paint pen to colour the postmark as well as the 'santa' in my title and the cute Mini Stars.

Flutterby Designs DT - Crazy Together

Hello Flutterby peeps!!

Today I am sharing my latest layout for Flutterby Designs featuring the fabulous NEW We Are collection.

'Crazy Together'

I used the lovely 'Messy Memories' paper from the 12 x 12 We Are Paper Pack as the base for my layout. I added a little stencilling using the 'xo' stencil and some heavy white gesso. I flicked some white paint pen over the surface too.

Next I layered on a strip of the 'The Story of Us' 12 x 12 paper followed by some cropped pieces from the Everyday Etc Filler Cards. I added the die cut photo frame from the We Are Die Cut Bits & Bobs as well as a frame from the Frame 46 Photo Cut Out.

I added my title using a Die Cut Bits & Bobs word as well as a sticker from the We Are Sticky Quotes. I cut out a couple of fun faces from one of the filler cards and popped those on as well as some page tabs and wood veneer pieces.

The Dusty Attic DT - Happy Campers

Hello Dusty FANattics!!

Belinda here today to share my first project for December featuring some fabulous Dusty Attic products.

'Happy Campers'

For this layout I wanted to document one of the adventures of our elves Tinsel and Ichabod. On this day they had decided to go on a camping trip and the Dusty Attic Camping Icons chipboard could not be more perfect!

I started by squeezing some Dusty In Colour Oceania paint directly onto my background. I then used a silicone palette knife to spread the paint over the surface. As usual I applied way too much paint so I scraped some of it off and swiped it over another background for later use. Waste not want not! Next I diluted some Dusty Pink and Gingernut paint as well as the Oceania and then flicked some droplets of colour over the background using a soft wet paintbrush. Then I left it to dry while I painted the Cosmic Swirl chipboard..

Here I have used the Cosmic Swirl chipboard as a Christmas wreath and have painted it accordingly with little red berries. I used the Gingernut paint first to cover the whole wreath and then coloured the stars and 'berries' with Posca paint pens. I used the same Dusty in Colour paints for the Camping Icons that I used on the background to co-ordinate everything with the photo. I used the white Posca paint pen to add some detail to the pieces.

I layered everything on the layout including the photo and patterned paper elements and then finished off with the title and some wordpl@y pieces. The title was coloured with a couple of coats of the same white Posca Pen.

I so love how these cute little camping themed chipboard pieces go so well with my photo. I knew I was never going to go camping to take a photo to use with these pieces so I am happy that my elves did!

Flutterby Designs DT - We Are Family

Hey peeps!

Today I have a layout to share for Flutterby Designs featuring the brand new stunning We Are collection.

'We Are Family'

I so love that woodgrain paper from the 12 x 12 Paper Pack! I cut that to size and then added some stencilling using the All You Need Is Love Stencil and some Tropicana Teal Flutter Colour Paint. I added some stamping too.

Next I shuffled around the Everyday Etc Filler Cards until I had the right combination, trimmed to size and layered under my photo.

I slipped in the fabulous camera that I fussy cut from one of the cards. I added in the a fussy cut from the Snap 1 pack as well as some page tabs.

To finish I added my trademark sprinkling of enamel dots as well as a ticket from the Bright Tickets set and some Sticky Quick Quotes.

The Dusty Attic DT - The Good Life

Hello!

Today I have a layout to share for The Dusty Attic inspired by the gorgeous November Mood Board.

'The Good Life'

Here's a little peek at the stunning mood board this month.

I started this layout by squirting some Dusty in Colour Paints in Cranberry, Lavender Blush and Sugar Plum over my background.

Then I used a palette knife to spread the paint mixing it as I went. I diluted some more of the paint in a palette with water and flicked some droplets over the layout too.

I added some stencilling using the Chicken Wire Stencil and the Lavender Blush paint as well as some random stamping.

I painted the chipboard frame, trellis and floral pieces with the same paints. The mini stars and captions were coloured with a white paint pen.
