The Dusty Attic DT - Note To Self

Hello!!

Today I am sharing my altered notebook for Notebook November at The Dusty Attic.

Even though I don't create 'off the page' too often I found this to be such a fun project to create. I even used the November Mood Board as inspiration for my notebook.

To start my notebook cover I went on a treasure hunt through my stash of patterned papers until something jumped out at me. I found the cutest paper with a bicycle image that suited the colours perfectly.

I used a matte gel medium to attach the paper to the cover, swiping some over the top of the paper too. Next I grabbed the closest paint palette and swiped some Dusty In Colour Paint in Cranberry, Lavender Blush and Sugar Plum around the edges of the paper.

Once the paint was dry, I used some heavy white gesso to add some stenciling. I wanted a lovely subtle effect with the stenciling. For more impact though you could add an outline to the words using a fine pen.

Next I used the same paint and gesso to colour the various chipboard pieces. I glued these pieces onto the front of the notebook along with some flowers and leaves. To finish I used a white paint pen to flick some white droplets over the cover.

Flutterby Designs DT - Stay Wild

Hello Flutterby peeps!

Today I am sharing another layout for October for Flutterby Designs featuring a lovely mix of past products.

NOTE: This layout contains sentence enhancers. Look away if you are offended by swear words

'Stay Wild'

I decided to stick to a pink and orange yellow colour combination for this layout so I started by applying some Raspberry Punch and Arctic White Flutter Colour Paint to my background cardstock using a palette knife. Once that was dry I mixed some Orange Goldfish paint with texture paste and applied over the Shake Your Tail Feather Stencil. I diluted a little of the Raspberry Punch and Orange Goldfish paints with water and splattered them over the background too. I left to dry for a while before I got too impatient and finished off with the heat gun.

I mixed and matched filler cards from different collections but mostly from the Wild Bohemian range. This is one of my all-time favourite Flutterby ranges and the good news is you can still find some available in the store AND it is on sale!! The 'wild' kind of suits the photo of my darling daughter when she was much, much younger and the queen of tanties! (She was actually putting it on for the camera in this shot. She wasn't quite that feral for real thank goodness!)

I love tucking in a fresh white fussy cut to break up all of the colour from the various filler cards too.

I added a mix of quotes from a couple of Snippet Strips as well as some Page Tabs which are one of my favourite Flutterby embellishments.

I cut the 'wild' word for the title from a Wild Bohemian Photo Card and added some Thickers from my stash to finish.

Finally I added a sprinkling of Confetti Circles and Enamel Dots as well as a flair button.

The Dusty Attic DT - Remember Today

Hello!!

Today I am sharing my take on the gorgeous October Mood Board at The Dusty Attic featuring the new divine Dreamcatcher Designer Discs.

'Remember Today'

The paper I used for the background had some lovely splats on it so I enhanced this further by applying Rusty Hinge Distress Ink over the Confetti Stencil using an ink blending tool. I also used an orange and a white paint pen to add a few more splats.

Next I layered some scraps of matching patterned paper together securing with a staple or two. I spread some messy embroidery thread over the layout and then stuck the patterned paper down using a couple of pieces of 3D foam just in the centre. This allowed me to slip in a couple of pieces of torn Corrugated Card that I had inked with the Rusty Hinge ink.

I used the orange paint pen to colour those gorgeous Dreamcatcher Designer Discs and stuck those down along with my photo.

I even tucked in a few Dusty In Bloom flowers which is a rare thing for me as I don't use flowers all that often. I liked the lovely white flowers though to break up all of the colour.

I finished by adding my title, a sweet Mini Heart Button and a Page Pebble that I had painted with the white paint pen as well as some cute enamel dots.

The Dusty Attic DT - Witch & Something Wicked

Hello!

Today I have a couple of spooky layouts to share for The Dusty Attic for October using some wicked Halloween chipboard.

'Witch'

I found some old Halloween paper in my stash to form the base of my layout and added a splash of colour using some purple acrylic paint. 

I layered on some purple glitter cardstock and more Halloween papers before adding the fabulous Web Flourishes. I kept them in their raw form to help them stand out against the busy background.

I covered the Bats with the same patterned paper as the background and added a border with a black journalling pen to define them.

How cool is that chipboard title?!! I coloured it with a purple glitter Posca Pen to co-ordinate with the glitter cardstock.

'Something Wicked'

Anybody that knows me knows that I LOVE horror movies, books and ZOMBIES! The scarier the better. The Walking Dead is my absolute favourite tv series. So I LOVE this photo of my daughter standing in front of a zombie board at the Royal Show. I especially love that it gives me a reason to use my zombie stamps

I had this old patterned paper in my stash with cobwebs all over it. Perfect for using with the awesome Spider Web chipboard.

I coloured the title with my trusty white Posca Pen to make it stand out from the dark layout.

I covered the Bats with patterned paper and used a silver paint pen on the Mini Stars.

I heat set the Spider Web with some gorgeous Aged Silver Embossing Powder. I love the chunky look of this embossing powder. It gives a lovely vintage finish that is not to shiny.

Guest Design Spot Art & Soul Studio

Hello!

I am super thrilled to be a guest designer for Art and Soul Studio for October. Especially with such a pretty mood board to work with!

I have created an art journal page using the beautiful colours of the mood board. Aqua is my absolute favourite colour so it was pretty easy to create something using it.

Here's a peek at the mood board:

I threw a lot of product at this page starting with some Jane Davenport Inkredible Inks in Mermaid Tail and Violet Syrup. I used my large JD art journal which has lovely watercolour paper so I didn't need to do anything to the page to start with. I did liberally spritz it with water and then drop the colour into the pools of water. There is something mesmerizing and relaxing about watching the ink spread across the page. I left this to dry for quite some time and then sped things up with the heat gun. The bonus of using the heat gun is these inks are scented and the gorgeous aroma wafts out when you dry it with the heat gun.

The Inkredible Inks are highly reactive to water so I gave my page a good spray with Helmar Crystal Kote Workable Matte Fixative. They did react slightly with the spray but not so much that it ruined the look. As you can see in the completed page you can hardly see this layer anyway! I know it's there though! LOL 

Next I went to town using a whole heap of different stencils with some acrylic paint. I like to use the latex make-up wedges to apply my paint as they give a lovely smooth finish and you can control how much paint you are applying. The less paint on the wedge the better when working with stencils to avoid bleeding under the stencil.

I added a Jane Davenport Face Stencil in the top right using some heavy black gesso and then added some JD collage papers in co-ordinating colours. I used some Liquitex Matte Medium to apply the collage papers.

In the bottom left corner I added a couple of Jane Davenport Rub-ons to balance the face in the top right corner.

I used the Jane Davenport Paint Over Pens to add some colour detail to the rub-ons.

I used the same pens to add detial to the face stencil.

I created a matching page on the other sideof the journal too.

Flutterby Designs DT - Beautiful You

Hey Flutterby peeps!!

Today I am sharing my latest layout for Flutterby Designs featuring a sweet mix of slightly less recent Flutterby products that I have been hoarding in my stash.

'Beautiful You'

I have gone for a minimalist look on this layout with very little mixed media. Just to show that it is ok to keep it clean sometimes. 

I used the Shine Bright Like A Diamond Stencil along with a black journalling pen on my background.  I diluted the Green Limousine and Tropicana Teal Flutter Colour Paints with water and flicked some droplets over the background. I tore a strip from a Blank Palette Everyday Etc Filler Card with the same pattern as the stencil and slipped that into my stack of chopped up filler cards.

I used some filler cards from the Mixed Lines set which I cropped to size to sit behind my tiny photo. You can find these cards in the store HERE and the good news is that they are currently on sale. Winning!

I slipped a stencil word in to the right of my photo and slightly underneath it to hide the staples that I secured it with.

I have also used a Super Cool Page Tab, some stars fussy cut from the Stars Photo Cut Out sheet, the Frame 8 Photo Cut Out, words cut from the Cool Snippet Strips, Green Sticky Alphas and Neon Enamel Dots.
